Exclamation Warrior/Ranger skills.

Hi everyone, this is my first post, and I'm new to Guild Wars. ( Nightfall ).

I've just reached level 5, and as my second profession i have chosen Ranger.

I'm a little bit stuck on what skills to have, pets? sword attacks?

Can someone tell me what to get and use? So i can be the most effective in combat.

At level 5 you've plenty of time to try things out. Be aware that as a Warrior you have the lowest energy pool and energy recharge.

There's no penalty for changing skills or attibute points, other than the cost of buying new skills. Just be careful not to spread your points too thinlky across too many attribute lines lines

Stick to warrior skills. Only take a Ranger skill to suppliment your build. For instance, if you are dealing with blind, cripple, poison, etc. (conditions) you can't remove them with Warrior skills. Ranger, however, has [antidote signet] which can remove conditions for you. Some builds will use skills from a secondary quite a bit, but until you are more familiar with the game, and know the builds, I wouldn't worry about them. [Apply Poison] is used commonly though. For more info on builds, you should check out the warrior forum in the Campfire.

W/R isnt a terrible choice for PvE, as almost anything can be made to work there. As a warrior in pve your primary role will be holding aggro and not dying. Here are a few different build's to play around with

Sever Artery
Gash
Whirlwind Attack
Hundred Blades
For Great Justice
Save Yourselves!
Some kind of IAS(such as frenzy, flurry, tiger stance, etc, etc)
Ressurection Signet/Antidote Signet

or for Axes

Triple Chop
Cyclone Axe
Whirlwind Attack
IAS(Frenzy, Flurry, yada yada yada)
For Great Justice
Save Yourselves!
I Am The Strongest!/Finish Him(i would lean towards finish him unless someone else is bring a skill for deep wound)
Ressurection Sigent

Also, later in the game when you can change your profession i usually use the following build

Sever Artery
Gash
Dragon Slash
Flail
Enraging Charge
Save Yourselves
For Great Justice
Enduring harmony

this build works by using enduring harmony to make for great justice last longer to repeatedly spam dragon slash and for great justice keeping both up the entire time it takes to kill a mob

Of most interest to you as far as current available skills, go to the post that Dre linked in the Warrior subforum and read Post #5 which has single campaign builds for beginners.

I love my warrior and she went through most of her early life as a W/R. As Magma Red said, you don't need to use any Ranger skills.

You do need to find a longbow for pulling, but DO NOT put Attribute Points into Marksmanship. The idea isn't to do damage but to get the foe's attention.

Welcome to GW/guru and enjoy your warrior.

There's a build which uses a pet. I haven't tried it myself, but it seems fairly effective for a build using a pet, which normally isn't very effective.
